UK Home Office Announces Visa and Sponsorship Fee Increases Effective April 2025

On 20th March 2025, The UK Home Office has announced updates to visa and sponsorship fees, effective from 9 April 2025. These changes will see immigration and nationality fees increase by 7% and will impact Skilled Worker visa applicants, sponsors, and those applying for settlement and British citizenship.


Key Fee Increases:

  • Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS):

    • Fees for Skilled Workers, Global Business Mobility Senior or Specialist Workers, Ministers of Religion, and International Sportsperson visas (over 12 months) will increase from £239 to £525.

  • Skilled Worker Visa Applications:

    • Up to 3 years (outside the UK): £719 → £769

    • Up to 5 years (outside the UK): £1,420 → £1,519

    • Up to 3 years (inside the UK): £827 → £885

    • Up to 5 years (inside the UK): £1,636 → £1,751

    • Skilled Worker roles on the Immigration Salary List (formerly Shortage Occupation List) will see increases of £39-£76 depending on visa length.

  • Sponsor Licence Fees:

    • For medium or large sponsors: £1,476 → £1,579

  • Indefinite Leave to Remain (Settlement):

    • £2,885 → £3,029

  • Naturalisation (British Citizenship):

    • £1,500 → £1,605

  • Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA):

    • Will rise to £16.


These adjustments are part of the Home Office's strategy to reduce reliance on taxpayer funding and ensure that the immigration system remains financially sustainable.

New Salary Assessment Rules for Skilled Workers:


From 9 April 2025, the Home Office will implement new rules affecting how salaries are assessed for Skilled Worker visa applicants. Certain deductions from salary, including payments related to immigration costs, business costs, or investments, will be considered when assessing whether a salary meets the minimum threshold for a Skilled Worker visa.


This means that if an employer loans an employee the cost of sponsorship or requires visa fees to be repaid through salary deductions, these amounts will be subtracted from the employee’s salary when determining whether they meet the Skilled Worker visa salary threshold.


Employers should review these changes carefully to ensure compliance and to understand the financial implications for both their organizations and their prospective employees.
